Craft6/2/">The complexity of the epimorphism problem for the bicyclic mono
id</a>\nby Luka Carrol (UTS) as part of World of GroupCraft VI\n\n\nAbstra
 ct\nThe <em>bicyclic monoid</em> (or <em>bicyclic semigroup</em>) $\\mathc
al{B}$ is the infinite monoid on two generators $a\,b$ subject only to the
relation $ab=1$. The monoid $\\mathcal{B}$ is a fundamental algebraic str
ucture that has found numerous applications in algebra\, combinatorics\, a
nd theoretical computer science. The monoid $\\mathcal{B}$ is an <em>inver
 se monoid</em>\; that is\, $\\mathcal{B}$ is a monoid in which every $x\\i
 n\\mathcal{B}$ has a unique <em>generalised inverse</em> $x^{-1}\\in\\math
cal{B}$\, meaning $x^{-1}$ satisfies only the identities $xx^{-1}x=x$ and
$x^{-1}xx^{-1}=x^{-1}$ rather than the stronger identity $xx^{-1}=x^{-1}x=
1$ satisfied by group inverses. In this talk we consider the computational
complexity of the <em>epimorphism problem</em> for the bicyclic monoid. T
his is the problem of deciding if there exists a surjective homomorphism f
rom an arbitrary\, finitely presented inverse monoid $\\mathcal{M}$ onto t
 he bicyclic monoid (or\, equivalently\, if $\\mathcal{M}$ has a quotient t
hat is isomorphic to $\\mathcal{B}$). We analyse this problem via a reduct
ion to <em>Presburger arithmetic</em>\, the first-order theory of linear a
rithmetic over the integers. Through this analysis we gain new insights in
to the complexity of an extension of Presburger arithmetic. This is joint
 work with Murray Elder.\n

Groups</a>\nby Muhammad Siddiq Wira Awaldy (Institut Teknologi Bandung) as
part of World of GroupCraft VI\n\n\nAbstract\nBranch group is a class of
groups that act faithfully on a rooted tree which transitive at each level
of the tree and satisfying certain conditions.\n\nWe study the congruence
subgroup property for finitely generated branch group where we compare th
e profinite completion of the group with the group's closure as the subgro
up of the automorphism group of the rooted tree. We prove that a finitely
generated branch group satisfies congruence subgroup problem (CSP) if and
only if it has a just infinite profinite completion. And furthermore\, we
give an algebraic characterization on such class of finitely generated bra
 nch groups.\n

Burau Representation</a>\nby Athira E V (Kerala School of Mathematics) as
part of World of GroupCraft VI\n\n\nAbstract\nWe study the monodromy acti
on of the mixed braid group on the first cohomology of cyclic branched cov
ers of the Riemann sphere\, which are mutually determined by a partition o
f branch points by equal ramification. The monodromy representation splits
into irreducible representations on the $t$-eigenspaces of the deck trans
formation. For each\, we construct an explicit spanning set using lifts of
Pochhammer contours and figure-eight curves\, and compute the Hermitian i
ntersection form. We show that each generator acts by a complex reflection
when the corresponding spanning class is non-isotropic\, and by a unitary
transvection when it is isotropic. The representation factors through a r
educed mixed braid group by dropping $t$-invisible parts of the partition
(those with trivial local monodromy). Provided $\\infty$ has non-trivial l
ocal monodromy\, the factored representation is isomorphic to the reduced
multivariate Burau representation evaluated at $t$. This is joint work wit
 h Dr.\\ Pranav Haridas.\n

by Sagar Saha (IISER Mohali) as part of World of GroupCraft VI\n\n\nAbstra
ct\nWe present an infinite family of branch groups in the class of non-con
tracting self-similar groups. We show that these groups are super strongly
fractal\, are not regular branch\, and have exponential growth. We furthe
r prove that they do not have the congruence subgroup property by explicit
ly determining the structure of their rigid kernels. This family provides
the first examples of branch groups with non-torsion rigid kernels. Moreov
er\, we compute the Hausdorff dimensions of the closures of these groups i
n the full automorphism groups of the corresponding regular rooted trees.

Abstract\nThe relative Cannon conjecture predicts that a relatively hyperb
olic group whose Bowditch boundary is homeomorphic to the standard 2-spher
e is Kleinian\, with virtually $\\mathbb{Z}^2$ peripheral subgroups. In th
is talk\, I will establish this conjecture under an additional analytic as
sumption on the boundary.\n\nI will begin by recalling the basic notions o
f a relatively hyperbolic group $(G\,\\mathcal{P})$ and its Bowditch bound
ary\, followed by the relevant metric notions: Ahlfors $Q$-regularity and
the Ahlfors regular conformal dimension. I will then discuss the backgroun
d to the problem\, including the classical Cannon conjecture for hyperboli
c groups and its analytic formulation due to Bonk and Kleiner. Finally\, I
will present the main result: if $(G\,\\mathcal{P})$ is relatively hyperb
olic\, its Bowditch boundary is homeomorphic to the standard 2-sphere\, an
d the boundary admits an Ahlfors $Q$-regular metric attaining the Ahlfors
regular conformal dimension\, then $G$ acts discretely and isometrically o
 n hyperbolic 3-space $\\mathbb{H}^3$\, and every peripheral subgroup $P \\
 in \\mathcal{P}$ is virtually $\\mathbb{Z}^2$.\n

he closure of (weakly) regular branch groups $G$ contained in the standard
Sylow pro-$p$ subgroup of $\\Aut(T)$. In some branch groups\, such as cer
tain GGS groups and the Grigorchuk group\, not every element of the derive
d subgroup is a single commutator\, yet many are. We prove that the lower
box dimension of the set of commutators with a fixed element\, with respec
t to the level stabilizer filtration\, equals 1 in the closure of $G$. Und
er additional hypothesis\, this extends to other filtrations\, such as the
lower $p$ central series. In contrast\, this fails for some pro-$p$ group

stract\nGeneralized torsion extends the notion of finite order by allowing
products of conjugates of an element in place of its powers. We study how
amenability and the structure of normal subgroups can be used to detect s
uch relations.\n\nIn this talk\, we present an amenability-based method fo
r detecting generalized torsion. If the normal closure $N$ of an element i
s finitely generated and amenable\, then the element is generalized torsio
n precisely when its image in the quotient by $N'=[N\,N]$ is generalized t
orsion. The proof uses invariant means to construct homomorphisms to the a
dditive group of real numbers that detect the absence of positive conjugac
y relations.\n\nWe apply this criterion to finitely generated amenable bra
nch groups\, proving that an element is generalized torsion exactly when i
ts image in the abelianization has finite order. In particular\, the gener
alized torsion elements\, together with the identity\, form a characterist
ic subgroup. We also show that every finite-index subgroup of a finitely g
enerated amenable just-infinite branch group consists entirely of generali
zed torsion elements\, with the conjugators chosen inside that subgroup.\n
